Dayton Air Show 2022: What you can expect this weekend

DAYTON — With the Dayton Air Show taking off this weekend, the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels will perform here for the first time since 2018.

News Center 7′s James Rider got an up-close look at what visitors can expect.

Some of the big changes this year are going to revolve around parking. Some of that includes shutting down part of North Dixie Drive so people can walk across the street into the gates without stopping traffic.

“We’ve changed our lots, our general admission and our P lot. We’ve switched them around and we’ve made an internal bus route for our P lot which should be a lot more conducive for the patrons that come to the show. Not only that, it’s going to help with the traffic out on Dixie and highway so we don’t have so many backups,” said Kevin Franklin, Dayton Air Show Executive Director.

The air show is also going to be going from 15 busses to take people to and from the parking lots all the way up to 35 busses. This year, you can also do more than just get your tickets to the show ahead of time too.

“We want to make sure everybody knows in advance. Get your parking. You can go on DaytonAirShow.com. Purchases those ahead. That’s going to help us too getting people in and out,” Franklin said.

This year, Franklin says people should not only look forward to all of the acts performing in the show, but he says there’s going to be significantly more and even better static planes for people to see at the show.

“Most people don’t get to be up that close to an aircraft. They can walk around it, get underneath it, touch it, it’s just quite an experience around a lot of the military stuff. Get to walk through a C-17. They’ll not only get to walk through that but it’s also a demo in the show this year,” Franklin said.

The Dayton Air Show is going to run Saturday and Sunday.
