Five Rivers MetroParks is working on a plan for a pedestrian bridge that would be a park over the Great Miami River.
The bridge would go over the river between First and Third Streets in Dayton.
The Riverfront Plan would revamp Sunrise MetroPark at Edwin C. Moses and Third Street and create a new Sunset MetroPark across the river.
The two parks would be connected by a “unity bridge” that would have green spaces, benches and trees.

Renderings for the project show new play areas and landscaping.
They also show a revamp of Sunrise Park and new pedestrian safety improvements to connect Sunrise with Mcintosh MetroPark across the street.
Eric Sauer, the park’s system planning manager, said the project could cost anywhere from $20 to $40 million.
He said the funding for the project would likely come from multiple partners.
“That could be private-public partnerships, that could be grants, that could be donations, all kinds of naming rights, sponsorships. So those are the things that you start to take a look at, just like we did on the RiverScape project,” Sauer said.
He said this project is a part of Dayton’s Riverfront Master Plan which is looking to connect the east and the west side of the city.
Because of the large scale of the project, Sauer said there is no timetable for possible construction yet.
“It’s just going to depend on when funding is in place and when things can happen,” Sauer said.
