Dayton Christian Schools to return to campus this fall

MIAMISBURG — Dayton Christian Schools announced its “Return to Community Plan,” which details how the school will safely have students return to campus full-time in the fall.

The school is anticipating an investment of up to $200 per student to help create a safe and healthy opening for everyone in the fall.

"A student’s absence from daily in-person instruction and community cannot be discounted,” said Dr. John Gredy, head of the school.

“Our students’ ongoing educational needs are of the utmost priority, but we cannot overlook the impact the recent crisis has had on each child’s emotional and social well-being. Our students need a full-time return to the community they love now more than ever before.”

Dayton Christian said the name of the plan was chosen because of a growing need to craft a fall return by looking at meeting each child’s needs from a holistic point of view including focusing on their educational, emotional, social and spiritual needs.

The school is looking into making changes such as social distancing, one-to-one technology expanded to junior high, and equipping elementary classes in cases where students might need at-home learning.

The possibility of an increase in counseling services to students who might experience anxiety for the first time since walking through the unprecedented crisis is also being discussed.

Although Dayton Christian is hoping the measures they are taking will allow students to return to campus in the fall, they acknowledge the unknown elements that still surround COVID-19.

"We wouldn’t be wise leaders if we didn’t prepare for every scenario, however, we are confident in our plan and committed to giving our students a fall return as close to normal as possible,” Gredy said.
