Services set for Dayton Firefighter/Paramedic Richard ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick

UPDATE @ 7:45 p.m. (Sept. 4): Visitation for Richard Vaughn "Fitz" Fitzpatrick, the veteran Dayton firefighter/paramedic, is 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday and an hour before the funeral Sunday at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 555 N. Market St.

Fitzpatrick passed away Sept. 2 in Riverside, Montgomery County, according to his obituary.

The Middletown native and Air Force veteran became a firefighter/paramedic with Dayton on Oct. 24, 1994, and also was a part-time paramedic for Union Twp.

He is survived by his wife Marlene; children Chad and Davey of Springboro, Amanda of Columbus, and Amber and Ryan of Troy. He also is survived by his stepmother, two brothers and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, in care of the funeral home (45373).

UPDATE @ 8:18 p.m. (Sept. 3): A coroner's investigation will determine the cause of veteran Dayton Firefighter/Paramedic Richard Vaughn Fitzpatrick, who died Sunday.

Fitzpatrick, 50, known to friends and colleagues as "Fitz," died from a medical emergency, the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 136 posted Monday on social media.

His 51st birthday would have been Sept. 7, Craig Wolfe, Fitzpatrick family spokesman, said Monday night.

The Troy resident was a 26-year member of the Dayton Fire Department and had been assigned to Company 15 (Wayne Avenue).

He is survived by his wife, five children and his parents.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
