DAYTON — The Dayton police officer accused of kicking in the door of a house on Strathaven Road last November and assaulting the homeowner will not stay in jail while he awaits trial.
Torrence Laprath, 33, of Dayton, is charged with a single count of aggravated burglary. He was released on a conditional own recognizance bond during his initial appearance in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.
Laprath, who is an 11-year veteran of the Dayton Police Department, is currently on unpaid administrative leave from the department, according to the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Nov. 11, Dayton police officers responded to the house on Strathaven after receiving a call from the homeowner.
“Laprath entered the home and a brief struggle ensued,” the prosecutor’s office said in a prepared statement. “The defendant‐intruder assaulted the homeowner until the homeowner was able to subdue the highly intoxicated defendant.”
Laprath will be in court next for a scheduling conference on Apr. 2 at 1 p.m.
