WATCH: Dayton police officer hurt after cruiser hit by suspected drunk driver on St. Patrick’s Day

DAYTON — A Dayton Police officer was hospitalized early St. Patrick’s Day morning after his cruiser was hit by a driver suspected of OVI.

Around 1:30 a.m. Friday morning, a Dayton officer stopped at a red light on Wayne Ave. when a black GMC Envoy came up behind his cruiser and hit him, according to a crash report.

The impact sent both vehicles through the intersection.

Both the officer and the driver of the GMC were taken to Miami Valley Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and have since been released, a spokesperson for Dayton police confirmed.

The driver of the GMC, a 42-year-old man, was suspected of an OVI and a search warrant for blood was served on him.
