DAYTON — The Dayton Police Department announced that one of its canine officers, K9 Cory, will be receiving a a bullet and stab protective vest.
K9 Cory is handled by Off. S. Gallagher, and is a dual purpose narcotics dog for the police department.
The vest will be embroidered with the words “In memory of Officer Jason Lagore and K9 Ranger, ODNR,” according to the police department.
“We are very grateful for this generous donation,” Sergeant Teddy Trupp, Dayton Police Canine Unit Supervisor said. “Canines face dangerous situations every day on the job along with our officers and this protective vest helps provide some peace of mind in those situations. Anything that we can do to help protect our officers and canines from being hurt is of utmost importance.”
The vest is being donated by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a non-profit organization.
K9 Cory is expected to be sporting the new vest when it is delivered within eight to ten weeks.
We want to send a big #ThankYou to @VIK9s for their donation of a bullet & stab protective vest for one of our newer canine officers, K9 Cory.
