James Lewis Leslie III, 24, is to be in court on Monday. He is in the Montgomery County Jail on two counts of felonious assault.

According to a police incident report, Leslie stabbed the woman in the neck with a steak knife at the residence in the 100 block, but police found her in the middle of the street screaming. She was reportedly covered in blood and heavily disoriented.

“She ran toward me and fell into my arms before falling to the ground,” a Dayton officer wrote in the report.  “The victim then stated that her kids were still in the house.”

The woman was transported to Miami Valley Hospital where she is said to be in serious condition.

There were children in the home at the time of the attack, from 2 years to 5 years old. They were not harmed.

One of the children was spotted running in a nearby alley covered in blood, but it was determined that the blood was from the victim, according to the incident report.
