DAYTON — The man accused of shooting a Dayton Police Officer during a scuffle will need $1 million to get out of jail after his initial bond was set during a hearing in Dayton Municipal Court, according to online records.
Antwyane Lowe, 39, of Dayton, is facing two counts of felonious assault on a peace officer, two weapons charges and a single count of assault on a peace officer. He was appointed a public defender, records show.
Officer Thadeu Holloway was released from the hospital Thursday after being shot in the head while investigating a fraud call in West Dayton.
Lowe was shot multiple times during the shooting. Lowe was booked Friday afternoon, Sept. 24, at 4:36 p.m. His bond was set at $1 million, according Dayton Municipal Court records.

Holloway responded to a fraud complaint at the Dollar General at 888 S. Gettysburg Ave around 6:40 p.m.. after a counterfeit bill was passed at the business.
Holloway located Lowe in the 600 block of Ingram Street around 7:24 p.m. He attempted to stop Lowe, but a scuffle ensued.
Holloway used his taser on Lowe, which brought Lowe to the ground. Lowe retrieved a handgun and fired one shot, which struck Holloway on the side of his head, hitting his temporal artery, Carper said.
“I’ve been shot on the left side of my head. I can barely hear my earpiece,” Holloway said over his police-issued radio as blood dripped from his face and he called for help.
Holloway fired five shots at Lowe and hit him in the neck and shoulders.
Carper credited Holloway for his professionalism while he waited for extra officers to come help. Body camera video released Wednesday showed the 8-year veteran officer asking people to stay inside and away from the scene.
“The concern that he showed, not just for his own wellbeing, but for the suspect and those around him,” Carper said.
The gun Lowe used had one more bullet still in the chamber when it was recovered, according to police. Police also recovered suspected drugs and cash from Lowe.
Holloway was loaded into another officer’s cruiser and taken to Miami Valley Hospital. He was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon, a Dayton police spokeswoman said.
“We got very lucky last night,” Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley said the morning after the shooting. “When I got that text across my phone yesterday evening that is very concerning, but we’re very lucky that it was just a graze.”

“It is just a reminder of what police go through every single day and the people that work for the city of Dayton that put their lives on the line to protect us every single day too,” Whaley said.

Lowe has a criminal history including assault on a police officer, Carper said. He was not legally allowed to have a gun, the chief added. Police plan to pursue charges of felonious assault, counterfeiting and other charges against Lowe for Tuesday night’s incident.
This is the second time in two years that a Dayton officer has been shot.
“The sheer amount of guns in our communities is a tragedy,” Whaley said. “People that shouldn’t have guns, have guns in their hands and that makes it much, much less safe for our police officers and our community as a whole.”
Tuesday night’s shooting was the first since the November 2019 deadly shooting of Dayton police Detective Jorge Del Rio, who was killed while serving a drug related search warrant while working with the DEA on Ruskin Road in Dayton, Carper said.

Three men were charged in connection with Del Rio’s death, and six others are facing drug conspiracy charges in connection to the drug investigation.
