DAYTON — It has been just over a week since Eliza Fletcher went missing after an early morning run in Memphis, Tennesee. She was later found dead on September 5.
The Dayton Police Department sat down with News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott to share some safety tips for joggers.
We were told joggers should always tell someone where they are going. They should stick to trails or areas they know well and do it during the day or once the sun comes up.
Try not to jog or exercise alone. Finding a running buddy or a group to run with can be helpful.

Running with a limited amount of music will also help you stay safe.
“People like to run with earbuds, and you know, whatnot, but it’s best to still try to maintain some type of awareness of your surroundings,” said Sgt. Jonathan Sopczak with the Dayton Police Department.
Sopczak added if someone attacks you, fighting back is advised.
“If you’re yelling, obviously draw attention to yourself, or someone in the area that would be able to hear you as far as lowering yourself to the ground makes you a heavier object to try to pick up.
