Dayton Public Schools’ Welcome Stadium to get $11 million upgrade

DAYTON — Dayton Public Schools’ Welcome Stadium is set for a multi-million dollar upgrade.

The DPS board voted and approved the project which is being taken on by Shook Construction.

DPS Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli told News Center 7′s Dontre Drexelius that the stadium was built in 1949 and some repairs are needed.

Repairs such as bathrooms, locker rooms, concession stands and the scoreboard, Lolli said.

The stadium host several events throughout the year including DPS’ high school and University of Dayton football games.

It has also hosted Ohio High School Athletic Association postseason events, football playoff games and regional and state track and field championships.

The renovation will cost around $11 million, according to Lolli.
