DAYTON — The City of Dayton’s expanded Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA) will officially begin tomorrow, Wednesday, June 14.
Dayton City Commissioners voted unanimously to expand the city’s DORA in late May and it has now been approved by the State of Ohio Liquor Control Board. As of tomorrow, the DORA will operate from noon until midnight, seven days a week.

The DORA will allow those 21 years and older to purchase alcoholic beverages in designated cups from permitted establishments and carry those drinks around outside within the designated area. All beverages must be finished or disposed of before entering another business that sells alcohol.
“It’s exciting to see months of collaboration, partnership, and hard work come to this result,” Sandra Gudorf, president of the Downtown Dayton Partnership, Tuesday. “Everyone involved in the effort to expand the DORA shares the common goal of wanting to help our small businesses succeed, especially those businesses still struggling from the effects of COVID-19.”

As News Center 7 previously reported, the current Oregon District DORA will dissolve and the area will be included in the new DORA. It will be “roughly bounded” Wilkinson Street to the west, Riverscape MetroPark and the Great Miami River to the north, Keowee Street to the east, and Sixth Street to the south.
A DORA oversight board including Dayton Police and the public works department was also being put in place. Gudorf previously told News Center 7 that they will meet on a quarterly basis to review how the new district is working and what changes they may need to make.
