MIAMI VALLEY — The Drug Enforcement Administration is preparing for its 22nd National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The bi-annual event offers free, anonymous disposal of old and unneeded medications.

Lt, Matt Beavers, of the Dayton Police Narcotics Bureau, said the Dayton Police Department looks forward to participating in the nationwide event.
“It gives us the opportunity to partner with the community to get rid of unused prescription drugs before they fall into the wrong hands and cause harm to an individual or family,” Beavers said.
According to the DEA, drug overdose deaths were up 16 percent last year. More than 290 people died from drug overdoses every day last year.

There will be more than 4,000 drop-off locations nationwide on the upcoming Drug Take Back Day, scheduled for April 30.
