The Dayton officer noticed the man appeared to be dead and had a gunshot wound.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene to investigate as the scene falls within Harrison Township.

Roy described the man found dead as a Black male in his late 20s or early 30s.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene as crews work to determine if the shooting was self-inflicted or the result of a crime.

“We are going to treat this as a homicide call out until the coroner gets here and we start working our way backward. If the investigation leads somewhere else, that’s where we’ll go with this,” Roy said.

Deputies found a weapon in the wooded area.

It’s unclear how long the man had been dead.

“We’re going to have our evidence techs come out, we’re going to collect everything we can, do a diagram of the scene, do everything we’re supposed to do,” Roy said.

Bobby Jefferson said he sees too much violence in society.

He also said too many people are battling depression alone and struggling with mental health issues.

“So this is just a messed up situation all the way around, regardless of what you know, it’s somebody’s father, sister, brother, you know that passed away there,” Jefferson said.
