HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KENTUCKY — Decomposing human remains were found at Northern Kentucky University Sunday afternoon.

The Northern Kentucky University Police Department responded to a call at around 12:30 p.m. that reported the discovery of decomposing human remains in a wooded area near the soccer stadium, a spokesperson for the college wrote in a press release.
A bystander found the remains while on campus for soccer activities, the spokesperson said. They were walking behind the soccer stadium when they stumbled upon the dead remains, at which time they contacted officers.
Officers and detectives responded to the scene. At around 1:20 p.m., a detective contacted Campbell County Special Incident Response Team to assist with handling and analyzing the scene, the spokesperson said.
An hour and a half later, the Campbell County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, the spokesperson continued.
The university affirmed to the students and public that the incident posed “no danger to the campus;” and the initial investigation did not suggest any foul play, according to the spokesperson.
The Highland Heights Police Department also assisted at the scene.
