Defendant sentenced to 15 years for manslaughter in 2017 shooting

Deron Anthony Martin, 24, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in the February 2017 shooting death of Charles McDonald Jr.

The shooting occurred in the apartment of Martin's girlfriend, on Autumn Wood Drive in Trotwood, where police were dispatched the afternoon of Feb. 27, 2017, on a report of a shooting, the Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement released this afternoon.

McDonald, also 24, had been shot several times.

The woman was McDonald's former girlfriend, according to the prosecutor's office.

Martin, a Dayton resident, was found guilty Thursday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on charges of involuntary manslaughter and carrying concealed weapons.

He’ll serve 11 years on the manslaughter count, plus an additional and consecutive three years for using a firearm, and one year on the carrying concealed weapons count. The sentences are to be served consecutively, according to the court.
