James E. Carver, of Clinton County, was arrested just after 11 p.m. at a Dayton residence, Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins told the News Journal.

He is currently being detained in Montgomery County Jail, online records show.

Police sought Carver in connection to the fatal shooting of 33-year-old Heather Camp of Wilmington, who died Tuesday at a Greenfield hospital.

Thursday, crews were searching parts of Corwin, Waynesville and Oregonia in Warren County after Carver’s cellphone pinged on a tower there.

Carver has a lengthy criminal record, with convictions for more than 30 offenses in Clinton and Highland counties, according to online court records, the News Journal reported.

Investigators searched the area of Corwin Road around 2 p.m. for James. E. Carver, 40, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said. A signal of a cellphone belonging to Carver was hitting off a cell tower in the area.

A search helicopter from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office also was requested to assist ground units.

“Deputies and detectives from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and detectives from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office checked multiple locations in the area of Oregonia, but were unable to locate the phone or Carver,” a prepared statement read.

Reports from The Highland County Press indicate Carver is considered a person of interest in the death of a 33-year-old woman Tuesday.

The victim, only identified as a woman from Wilmington, died after she was dropped off at a Greenfield, Ohio hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest, the paper reports.

Carver has facial tattoos, was last known to live in the New Vienna, Ohio, area, and might be driving a black Chevrolet Trailblazer sport-utility vehicle.

Deputies terminated the search at 3:35 p.m. and there have been no reports of Carver actually being seen in the area of Warren County.

If you see Carver or know his whereabouts, do not approach him and call 911.
