Deputy hurt during county-wide call for help in Montgomery County, sheriff says

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP — A deputy was injured while trying to take a wanted suspect into custody Sunday morning.

News Center 7 previously reported that Montgomery County deputies were attempting to take a wanted suspect into custody in the 5000 block of West Third when a call for county-wide assistance, or a “signal 99″ was issued.

The signal 99 was issued because the suspect continually tried to reach for a gun inside his jacket during the struggle, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

A deputy suffered a hand injury and was taken to the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect received minor injuries and was treated and released from the hospital before being booked into the Montgomery County Jail.

John Dean, 44, is facing initial charges of assault on a police officer, having weapons under disability, and resisting arrest for his active warrant, according to online jail records.
