‘Congratulations to the newest troops;’ DeWine attends OSHP’s 170th Academy class graduation

COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s 170th Academy Class graduation took place Friday after 32 weeks of intense training, according to an OSHP spokesperson.

Governor Mike DeWine, Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Andy Wilson and OSHP Superintendent Colonel Charles each attended and also made remarks.

“Congratulations to the newest troopers representing @OSHP!” Governor DeWine said on social media Friday afternoon.

The commencement was delivered by Ohio Adjunct General, Major General John Harris Junior, and Judge Matthew Frericks, Marion County Court of Common Pleas, issued the Oath of Office.

“Congratulations to the members of the #OSHPCadetClass170 who graduated (Friday) today as troopers from our Training Academy!” OSHP wrote on social media late Friday afternoon. “Thank you to the families, friends, and supporters who were with us (Friday) today.”

Graduates will report to their posts on Sunday, January 15, and their first 70 working days will be a field training period under the guidance of a veteran officer, OSHP said.

The new graduates are assigned to 19 of the Patrol’s 59 posts.
