Trump has repeatedly made false claims about migrants living in Springfield, and DeWine said several times the former president is wrong.
The meeting was held at Springfield City Hall to discuss the strain the city has been through since Trump made comments about the Haitians in Springfield during his debate with Vice President Kamala Harris, plus how the governor and mayor have requested additional resources to help.

News Center 7 asked DeWine why he hasn’t talked to Trump about what has been going on in Springfield.
“I watched the comments and I didn’t think it would do any good,” DeWine said. “He said last night that there were 33-thousand Haitians here-- that’s wrong, yes that’s wrong.”
DeWine and Springfield Mayor Rob Rue were not shy about the need for help. With more than 40 different threats that have come in, law enforcement needs help responding to it all.
DeWine would not go into detail about the additional resources that would come to the area if Trump does visit. He noted that the Secret Service would take the lead and the state would assist as they always do.
