A structure fire in the 100 block of Sherman Street may have been caused by suspicious circumstances, Dayton Fire Department officials say.

Crews were dispatched to the area around 6:45 a.m.  Saturday after a neighbor saw flames coming from the garage.

The house has been vacant for a while but another fire had been reported at the same location earlier in the year, fire chief Brad French said.

Even though the fire may be suspicious, French said it’s still a good idea to check your smoke detectors regularly and change the batteries often, saying the winter is a “very dangerous time” with frequent fires.

The incident is under investigation.
