DEFIANCE COUNTY — A 2.9 magnitude earthquake was detected in northwest Ohio Sunday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake occurred at approximately 6:46 a.m. southwest of Hicksville in Defiance County.

According to our CBS affiliate in Toledo, WTOL-11, an earthquake in Defiance County is very rare and there are no known faults in the area.
The USGS says there has never been an earthquake record in Defiance County, WTOL-11 reports.
As previously reported on News Center 7, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was reported in Lawrence County, Ohio, nearly two weeks ago.
