Doctor treating Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin a University of Dayton graduate

DAYTON — Dr. William A. Knight IV, MD, a University of Dayton graduate, is one of the doctors treating Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Knight graduated class of 1999 from University of Dayton with a bachelor’s in biology and psychology, a spokesperson for the university confirmed to News Center 7.

He then attended University of Cincinnati for his medical degree and residency in emergency medicine, his faculty profile stated.

Knight specializes in neurocritical care and neurovascular emergencies, earning a fellowship from University of Cincinnati in the fields.

He currently is the director of Emergency Medicine MLP Program, a professor in the emergency medicine department, and the “lead physician for the Cincinnati team of unaffiliated neurotrauma consultants, visiting team medical liaisons, and emergency medical services support,” Senior Vice President of Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Kristen Wevers said at a press conference.

Knight serves on the team treating Hamlin after the athlete suffered a cardiac arrest on the field.

News Center 7 previously reported that Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after a tackle. First responding medics rushed to resuscitate him twice, although the claim has been disputed by a representative for Damar Hamlin’s family.

He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center for treatment.

Hamlin has since woken up and undergoing the recovery phase of his treatment.
