Dog bites letter carrier, USPS temporarily suspends delivery to Dayton neighborhood

DAYTON — Mail delivery is temporarily suspended in one neighborhood after a dog bit a letter carrier from the Daytonview Post Office.

People who live on Hepburn Avenue said mail has not been delivered for the past two weeks following the dog bite.

Naddia Dhalai, USPS strategic communication specialist for the Northern Ohio District & Ohio Valley District, said in an email Friday night that delivery would remain suspended "until this issue is resolved."

Aggressive or unrestrained animals are a serious issue, Dhalai said. One bite can cause a serious injury, and is preventable.

“We request all customers keep their dogs restrained during normal delivery hours to protect the safety of the letter carriers,” she said.
