10 dog breeds with a higher risk for cancer

Although cancer can affect any dog, there are some breeds that have a higher risk than other.

News Center 7's Cheryl McHenry is taking a look at why golden retrievers in particular see a higher rate of cancer. For more information, tune in Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 5:30 p.m.

Golden retrievers aren’t the only breed with a higher risk though.

According to the Morris Animal Foundation, these nine breeds have an increased risk of cancer:

  • Burmese mountain dogs
  • Boxers
  • Scottish terriers
  • Bouvier des Flandres
  • Bullmastiff
  • Rottweiler
  • Rhodesian ridgeback
  • Airedale terrier
  • Irish setter
