PASADENA, CA — Ohio State jumped out to a big lead early and survived a fierce comeback attempt to win the Rose Bowl Game and advance in the College Football Playoff.

The eighth-seeded Buckeyes defeated the top-seed Oregon Ducks 41-21 and advances the Buckeyes to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. Ohio State will play the fifth-seed Texas Longhorns who defeated Arizona State in the Peach Bowl earlier in the day.
Ohio State and Texas will meet in the Cotton Bowl on Friday January 10 in Arlington, Texas. The winner of the Cotton Bowl will take on the winner of the Orange Bowl for the National Championship. Penn State advanced to the Orange Bowl with a New Year’s Eve victory in the Fiesta Bowl over Boise State.
The winner of Thursday’s Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and Georgia will play Penn State. The Sugar Bowl was postponed Wednesday due to the New Orleans terrorist attack that killed at least 15 people and injured dozens more.
Ohio State’s win avenged a last minute loss to Oregon in Eugene earlier in the year when the Ducks defeated the Buckeyes 32-31 October 13.

The Buckeyes were led by strong performances by quarterback Will Howard, who threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns. His primary target, freshman sensation Jeremiah Smith caught eight passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns.
But the air attack was only part of the 500 yards of total offense. The running back duo of TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins teamed up for 179 yards and two touchdowns including Henderson’s 66 yard score in the second quarter.
