Downtown Dayton street parking goes digital

DAYTON — Drivers will now be able to pay electronically for parking in downtown Dayton.

The city began using Passport Parking, a smartphone app that allows drivers to pay electronically with a credit or debit card, for its nearly 1,300 parking spaces on Monday.

“With the Passport technology, Dayton is dramatically improving the street parking experience for customers,” City Manager Shelley Dickstein said.

Dickstein said the app allows the city to manage street parking operations more efficiently.

“Dayton residents, workers and visitors can now enjoy what downtown Dayton has to offer without having to dig for loose change or thinking twice about a parking meter running out of time,” Mark Schleyer, Passport regional sales director, said.

The app itself if free to download in app stores, but there is a $0.30 convenience fee per credit or debit card transaction.

The existing cash and credit card payment option installed on parking meters will continue to be available.
