Downtown Springfield to get outdoor ice rink through holiday season

SPRINGFIELD — A new outdoor ice rink is expected to open later this month at City Hall Plaza in downtown Springfield as part of the Holiday in the City festivities, organizers announced Monday.

“The 40′ x 80′ ice sheet will be placed adjacent to the fountains at the corner of Fountain and Main and will open on November 26,” Holiday in the City announced on Facebook. “We are planning to work with local schools, church groups and non-profits to help us staff the rink, while earmarking all proceeds to them.”

The rink is expected to be open through Jan. 2.

Organizers with Holiday in the City said they plan to partner with the NTRPD Chiller to also offer some special promotions on indoor skate nights at The Chiller at 301 W. Main Street.
