Driver airlifted to local hospital, faces citation after Miami County crash

MIAMI COUNTY — A woman was flown to Miami Valley Hospital and will likely receive a citation after deputies say she caused a crash on Ohio 718 Wednesday morning.

Authorities and emergency personnel responded to the area of Ohio 718 and Ohio 721 after a nearby resident reported a serious crash around 12:30 a.m.,officials said.

A preliminary investigation by sheriff’s deputies from Miami County revealed that a Sedan heading west on Ohio 718 ran a stop sign, and struck a Jeep that was headed south on Ohio 721.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, and CareFlight was called to the scene for precautionary measures, deputies said.

There were two people inside each of the vehicles.

The female driver of the Sedan, who authorities say was not wearing her seat belt, was flown to Miami Valley Hospital. Her condition is unknown, though officials say she was conscious and alert at the scene.

The male passenger of the Sedan was transported to Upper Valley Medical Center with a broken ankle.

Both occupants of the Jeep were treated and released at the scene.

Sheriff’s deputies say the Sedan driver is facing a citation for running the stop sign. Alcohol is also a possible factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
