UPDATE @ 7:05 p.m. (Feb. 17):

The woman who was in critical condition after striking a disabled semi-truck on Ohio 571 Tuesday evening has died, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

Emily Lear, 19, of Piqua, succumbed to her injuries on Feb. 16.

This incident marks the third fatality on Darke County roadways in 2019, the news release stated.

This accident currently remains under investigation.

According to a release by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation revealed that a Kensworth semi-truck was disabled on the west side of the roadway when the driver of a GMC Terrain, who was also traveling westbound, struck the rear of the truck near Gettysburg Pitsburg Road at approximately 7:32 p.m.

The driver of the GMC Terrain, who is only described as a female, was taken by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital.

The 62-year-old semi-truck driver, Christopher Blauser of Tipp City, did not claim any injuries at the scene, the release stated.

The crash remains under investigation.

Deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, Arcanum Rescue, Pitsburg Fire Department, and the Darke County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene.
