Driver suffers critical injuries in single-vehicle Clark County rollover crash

UPDATE @ 11:34 p.m.: The victim in the rollover crash on Clifton Road is a 40-year-old Springfield man, who remains in a hospital after suffering critical injuries.

Josiah Peters crashed his Honda Civic when he overcorrected after driving off the right side of the roadway, hit a ditch and overturned several times, according to the Springfield Post, Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash caused the shutdown of Clifton Road for approximately two hours, the patrol said.

There was no word whether Peters would be cited in the accident.

INITIAL REPORT

The driver of a car that rolled several times on Clifton Road in Madison Twp., Clark County, has been taken to a hospital, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The 40-year-old male driver was unconscious when he was taken to Miami Valley Hospital by medical helicopter from the accident in the 8200 block of Clifton Road, said Sgt. Richard Dixon, Springfield Post.

His condition was believed to be critical, the sergeant said. The accident was reported about 4:30 p.m.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver may have been speeding when he apparently lost control on a curve, Dixon said. The small sedan flipped or rolled as many as five times before coming to rest in a field.

The driver was not wearing his seat belt, Dixon said, and was trapped in the wreckage for a time.
