DAYTON — A woman was hospitalized after crashing an SUV through a Dayton parking garage wall, sending the vehicle down two stories to the street below, according to police.
Police and rescue crews were called to the parking garage on West First Street near North Ludlow Street around 8:50 a.m. after the crash was reported.
The driver, only identified as a 53-year-old woman, was trapped after the SUV ended up on its top. She was rescued from the vehicle and taken to Miami Valley Hospital for treatment of her injuries.
Her condition was not released, however police said she was stable when she was taken from the scene.
“This is not something you see everyday,” Dayton police Sgt. Shawn Miley told News Center 7.
Miley added the crash is under investigation by Dayton police’s traffic services unit and potential contributing factors were not released.
For witnesses and bystanders, the crash reminded them of something they’d see on the big screen.
“I’ve never seen anything like that,” Marlana Miller of Dayton said. “I heard second-hand the individual driving the vehicle is going to be ok, and that’s unbelievably relieving.”
“I can’t imagine going through a brick wall two stories up and surviving that fall. It looks like something from a movie,” Miller said.
Dayton police said West First Street will be partially blocked while crews remove the vehicle and debris.
Additional details were not released.
