Drivers escape fiery collision on U.S. 127 in Darke County, sheriff’s office says

Two drivers escaped injury Friday afternoon after their vehicles caught fire in a collision on U.S. 127 in Ansonia, the Darke County Sheriff's Office said.

A tow truck driver who happened by shortly after the accident put out the fire in one of the vehicles, the sheriff's office said in a statement. Firefighters from Ansonia had to deal with the other vehicle, which was engulfed when they arrived.

According to the preliminary investigation, 18-year-old Estefany Banda Banda of Union City, Indiana, pulled her Lincoln Zephyr into the path of a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 28-year-old Matthew Monnin of Versailles just before 3 p.m.

Her car was westbound on Beamsville Union City Road. His vehicle was headed north on 127, according to the sheriff's office.

Both managed to get out of their vehicles. They were treated at the scene and released.

Banda was cited for failing to yield from a stop sign, according to the sheriff's office.
