The drones were spotted in the vicinity of and over “Area A” and “Area B” late Dec. 16 into early Dec. 17, according to a media release.
“Installation leaders have determined that none of the incursions impacted base residents, facilities, or assets. The Wright-Patterson AFB airspace was not affected by the incursions,” the release states.
The number of drones and their sizes and configurations have fluctuated, according to the base.
News Center 7 has previously reported that drones were reported at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, causing the airspace to be restricted for four hours from Dec. 13 into Dec. 14.
The base encouraged anyone who sees anything suspicious to contact local police or security forces.
Chuck Hamlin worked at WHIO-TV for 43 years and spearheaded our news-gathering drone program for seven years.
He said that drone pilots are licensed and closely regulated.
“That’s the surprising part about this, that drones are apparently getting to areas that are restricted and against FAA regulations,” Hamlin said.
News Center 7 has always received warnings that shut down our drones near Wright Patterson or Dayton International Airport.
The drone controller would display a “restricted airspace” message.
We will continue to follow this story.
