Clearcreek Twp. officer killed in crash on Ohio 125

BATAVIA TWP., CLERMONT COUNTY — An off-duty Clearcreek Twp. police officer was killed in a head-on crash on Ohio 125 Monday night, an officer with the Clearcreek Twp. Police Department confirmed.

Jerrid M. Lee, 27, of Bethel was involved in a two-vehicle crash near Lindale Mount Holly Road at approximately 8:19 p.m.

According to a release by the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Batavia Post, a preliminary investigation revealed that a GMC Envoy, operated by Justin Watts, 31, of Cincinnati, was traveling east on Ohio 125 when the vehicle drove across the center turn lane into the westbound lanes and struck a Honda Civic head-on.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and came to rest in the westbound lanes.

Lee, who was driving the Honda Civic, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clermont County Coroner’s Office, the release stated.

Watts declined medical treatment at the scene.

Drug impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash, according to the release.

State troopers have not said which driver is suspected of being impaired.

It is unknown at this time if Watts will face any charges in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by OSP.

Additional agencies that assisted at the scene include the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Central-Joint Fire EMS.
