Carillon Park bald eagles Orv and Willa are parents again

DAYTON — A pair of bald eagles are taking care of brand new eaglets in their nest at Carillon Park.

This is building excitement among parkgoers after the eagles had a major setback last year with the loss of both eaglets.

“Before now, I’ve never even seen an eagle in person so I think it’s cool,” said Trenton Widau of Beavercreek.

You don’t need an eagle eye to spot Orv and Willa. Birdwatchers gathered Wednesday to get a glimpse of the pair in action.

“For me, even just seeing them flying in the sky is amazing, even if you’re not taking pictures,” Adam Noschang of West Chester said.

“They’ll come down into the river. You can watch them go, like, look for a fish, go down, grab it, take it to the nest, or take it to this tree over there, and they’ll eat it,” Widau said.

Expert Jim Weller, founder of Eastwood Eagle Watchers, said judging by the amount of food the birds are bringing up, there are two eaglets in the nest.
