The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 68 in Union Township at around 11:25 a.m., a spokesperson for the department stated.
A preliminary investigation found that a 2012 Nissan Rogue crossed the centerline and began driving south on northbound lanes. It eventually collided head-on with a 2021 Buick Encore traveling north.
The incoming vehicle also caused a 2019 Hyundai Sonata off the right side of the road, causing it to strike a tree.
Daryl W. Huhtala, 72, of Xenia, the driver of the Nissan, was identified as driver killed in the crash.
The Buick’s driver, a 38-year-old man from Sabina, reported injuries and was transported to Clinton Memorial Hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, the spokesperson said.
The Hyundai’s driver did not report any injuries and refused treatment, the spokesperson continued.
The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol led the investigation into the crash. State troopers were assisted by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and the Wilmington Fire Department and EMS.
