Ohio Task Force 1 leader Adam Landis has been in the Carolinas working on search and rescue efforts.

“To evaluate number one, anybody’s trap, checking then on damage assessments, and we’re able to take that information and pass it up to the authorities here,” Landis explained.

He spoke about some of the difficulties they are facing now that Helene has moved out.

“A lot of the roads and bridges have been washed away. There’s a tremendous amount of damage to the infrastructure throughout this entire area,” Landis said.

Landis is preparing if the task force gets called to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.

“We have our personnel coming up with contingency plans, and in the circumstance that we were sent back there, we will be ready for that,” he said.

News Center 7 spoke with AES about what residents can do if severe weather is expected.

The current path of the hurricane does not reflect that it will have any impact on the area, according to Storm Center 7 Weather Specialist Nick Dunn.

Mary Ann Kabel, director of corporate communications at AES Ohio, recommended having a storm kit ready even when severe weather isn’t expected.

She said AES is working to prepare their crews to go out once they have a better understanding of if and when the hurricane will hit land.

“Make sure that we have adequate supplies and staff and crews to address any outages that may occur,” Kabel said.
