Mason Williams, 26, was sentenced on Monday to 18 months in prison. He was also designated a Tier III sex offender and will have to register as such for the rest of his life.

Williams was found guilty of two counts of sexual battery and one count of tampering with evidence in November.

As News Center 7 previously reported, Williams had been accused of being in a consensual relationship with an 18-year-old student at National Trail High School outside of the school setting earlier this year.

Williams had been the student resource officer at the National Trail School District for roughly two years.

During the investigation, it was discovered that Williams had deleted electronic correspondence with the victim, which led to the tampering with evidence charge.

“You can’t do your job of keeping kids safe at school when you lack the judgment to know that students are off-limits for sexual relationships,” Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said in a release. “He’s an embarrassment to the badge, and he has rightfully earned the label of sex offender.”
