More than 30 years after being convicted for the 1985 murders of five people, including three children, the Ohio Supreme Court has announced the execution date for Samuel Moreland.

Morland, of Dayton, has been in the prison system since May 6, 1986.

On Wednesday, the Ohio Supreme Court announced that Morland would be executed on July 30, 2025 at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.

Last year Gov. Mike DeWine said lethal injection was not an option for capitol punishment, so now lawmakers must choose a different method.

The announcement came as an unofficial execution moratorium continues in Ohio.
