A woman and her two daughters lived at the home but were not there at the time of the fire, according to Springfield Fire Rescue Divison Assistant Chief Matt Smith.
Smith said the biggest challenge firefighters had to face was not the fire itself, but “extraordinarily cold” temperatures.
The fire was raised to a second alarm, calling more crews and several off-duty firefighters to the scene.
This was due to crews having to be constantly rotated to keep them warm.
Damages are estimated to be around $15,000, Smith said.
No injuries were reported.
