Fairborn Municipal Court judge warns residents to be on guard for phone scam

If you are a Fairborn resident and get a phone call about your being named in a lawsuit, hang up because the call likely is a scam, Municipal Judge Beth Cappelli said in a public warning.

Judge Cappelli, in her announcement made Thursday afternoon, said the court recently has received phone calls from concerned citizens advising they were receiving phone calls from people claiming to be court employees, informing the individuals they were named in a lawsuit or owe court fines.

Cappelli said Fairborn Municipal Court will not call and ask for you to make any payment over the phone. The court also will not call an individual to inform them of any pending lawsuits, she said.

If you receive these types of telephone calls, hang up and do not provide the caller with any personal information, Cappelli advises.
