False active shooter report locks down Catholic Central School; investigation underway

SPRINGFIELD — Catholic Central School was placed on lockdown after police received a false report of an active shooter Tuesday morning.

The call came in just before 10 a.m.

Springfield Police said within two minutes more than a dozen officers were on the scene.

Within an hour the building was declared safe.

“If there’s any good that came out of this... work with everything we had,” Captain Mike Kranz with the Springfield Police Division said.

Classes were canceled after the lockdown was lifted.

A similar call was made last month. It was also fake.

Kranz said not only did the police respond to the call but also the fire department and Clark County Emergency Management.

“I couldn’t even begin to put a dollar amount on it, it’s a lot of resources, the response...” Kranz said.

He said investigators are working with a phone company to try and track down where the call came in.
