DAYTON — Family and friends gathered outside of Dayton Children’s Hospital this evening as they held a vigil for the two children critically injured in the fatal Germantown crash on Friday.

Three adult women were killed in the crash that took place on state Route 4 near Germantown. One of those women, Ashley Mance, 26, had her two children in the car with her at the time of the accident. The two children were transported to the hospital with critical injuries.

Samantha Johnson told News Center 7′s Ronnell Hunt the two children are her niece and nephew, 7-year-old Averly Johnson and 23-month-old Andrew Johnson, Jr., who goes by “AJ.”

Johnson confirmed that her brother, Andrew Johnson, Sr., and Mance were dating and Averly and AJ are the couple’s two children.

“We’re devastated. We’ve lost the babies’ mother,” Brenda Johnson, Averly and AJ’s grandmother said.

Investigators said while two cars were the only ones actually impacted in the fatal crash, a third vehicle was part of the crash. German Township Police said a black vehicle left the scene and officers are looking for the driver.

While the family asked for continued prayers for Averly and AJ, Samantha Johnson also ask the driver of the mystery third vehicle to turn themselves in.

“Please do the right thing,” Samantha Johnson said.
