The organization has been handing out food non-stop since Christmas Eve, and the charity will continue until 7 p.m. Christmas.
Feeding First Responders is a Shriners organization and their goal is to give any hungry first responder a place to go where they can get a home cooked meal at any point in their shift.
“Most of the cops come in here and then, like as soon as they get their food, they’re getting the call and they’re rushing out the door,” Bruce Baughman, President of Antioch Shrine said.
Baughman has been a Shriner since 2016, helping to raise money for hospital patients and families.
“We have 18 other hospitals and outreach programs supporting kids,” Baughman said.
Three years ago, Baughman wanted to continue his friend’s tradition of giving back to first responders on Christmas.
“Today we had the full turkey, ham meal together,” Baughman said.
Baughman’s son is a Dayton police officer, so this tradition is personal to him.
“Thanks for them doing what they do everyday, not just for the holidays,” Baughman said.
Many people are working this holiday, making sacrifices.
“When we’re at home with our families, enjoying ourselves, that’s the main reason why we come here to give back to them,” Baughman said.
When they pack up after 7 p.m., they are going to package up meals and take them to the Shriners Children’s Hospital.
