SIDNEY — UPDATE: 5:15 p.m.
Fire crews responded to a working structure fire early Saturday morning in Sidney, resulting in one being transferred to the hospital.
Crews were dispatched to the 600 block of St. Mary’s Avenue t 1:37 a.m. to extinguish a heavy volume fire on the second story of the structure, according to a release from the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services
One person was trapped inside of the residence, but crews were able to quickly locate and remove the male occupant by cutting a hole in the exterior of the structure to access to him.
He was then transported to Wilson Health for evaluation and was later transferred to a Dayton hospital for further treatment.
Crews brought the fire under control within an hour of arrival and remained on scene to perform overhaul operations, according to the release.
The loss to the residence is estimated at $50,000 to the structure and $25,000 to the contents.
Mutual aid was received from Anna and Lockington Fire Departments and Perry-Port Salem EMS, and the Sidney/Shelby County Salvation Army also provided Emergency Disaster Services which included hot coffee and food for the first responders.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services

Crews responded to reports of a fire at St. Marys Ave and Pike Street just before 1:50 a.m.
Initial reports indicated that the fire started on the second floor of the building.
