DAYTON — Fire crews fought a large fire in a vacant house in the 1300 block of Alwildy Avenue early this morning, according to Dayton Fire Captain David Grubb.

Grubb said that when firefighters arrived, they found a house with heavy fire all around the second floor, as well as in the rear of the first floor.

Firefighters entered the house to try to search for any people who may possibly have been inside, but found nobody. However, Grubb said that they weren’t able to make a full search of the house, and had to leave the house after the fire expanded on the first floor.

At that point fire fighters began a defensive strategy, Grubb said, which means fighting the fire from outside the home, including using an overhead hose to spray water directly down on the flames.

The fire is still being investigated.
