3 people, 6 dogs, 3 cats make it out of Covington cabin fire

UPDATE @ 9:40 a.m.:

A total of three people, six dogs and three cats were able to make it out of the fire with no injuries Saturday morning on South Wall and East Bridge streets, Covington Fire Chief Bart Weer said.

Crews arrived around 7:45 a.m. to heavy fire showing in the garage with fire extending to the attic of an attacked log cabin.

“Both residents were asleep, they were awaken by an off-duty sheriff deputy pounding on their door. They came down and realized the house was on fire so they were able to get out,” Weer said. “As well as the neighbor, she was asleep, they were pounding on her door. She was able to get out also.”

There is a significant amount of damage to both structures, including smoke and water damage to the upstairs bedroom and side of the house.

The definite cause of the fire and damage estimate was not immediately available.

Mutual aid from Piqua, Bradford and Pleasant Hill all assisted at the fire.
