A barn fire killed two dogs and two goats Tuesday morning, Beavercreek Twp. Fire Department Deputy Chief Scott Dorsten said.

Crews responded around 4 a.m. to the 2000 block of Hanes Road to a barn showing large flames and a lot of smoke.

Hanes Road was closed for roughly four hours while crews battled the fire that Dorsten said a passerby reported when they stopped by the station on Kemp Road.

A few feet away from the burning barn was a house where a couple was asleep inside with no idea what was going on.

“We were fortunate in the aspect that the barn was far enough away from other structures, we didn’t have any exposure to the house or the other barn,” Dorsten said.

Dorsten said they’re still determining damage estimates.

“With the amount of damage, it’s going to take a while to investigate and determine the cause.”
