Barn fire rekindles after initial 2-alarm call

Crews battling a house fire in Huber Heights

HOLLANSBURG — Darke County firefighters were dispatched a second time to put out a rekindling barn fire Sunday overnight.

The initial fire required mutual aid from six different fire departments and a rescue agency to extinguish the flames the previous day on Saturday.

Firefighters were once again called to the 2600 block of Payne Road in Hollansburg after reports of visible flames showing from a rekindling barn fire, Darke County Dispatch told News Center 7.

Firefighters from Darke County responded to the scene at around 3:25 a.m. and attempted to put out any visible flames, dispatch said.

Dispatch was unable to provide information regarding the cause of the rekindling or the initial fire.

Reports of the initial fire came in on Saturday at around 10 p.m., dispatch informed.

Firefighters and engines from Liberty Township, Arcanum, New Madison, Greenville, Hollansburg, and Union City responded to the two-alarm call in a mutual aid effort to extinguish the “fully engulfed” barn fire, dispatch said. Tri-village Rescue was also called to the scene to provide assistance.

There were no reported injuries; however, medics were called to the scene as part of the protocol, dispatch stated.

Dispatch did not know if the barn was occupied prior or during the fire.
